Workplace Violence Prevention Training for HR Teams

Your HR team deals with the toughest conversations in your company. Termination of employment. Complaints. Threats. Crises among your employees.

Almost all HR employees receive training about policies. However, very few get any sort of training in how to react when a situation begins to heat up, and that’s exactly when incidents happen.

At JG Good Corp, we train the HR directors, safety managers, and compliance officers from Schaumburg, Glenview, Lake Forest, and the entire Chicagoland area on how to spot the warning signs and respond appropriately.

The Problem HR Teams Face

The FBI has been studying workplace violence for years now. In almost all the cases, there were warning signs before the event. Someone noticed something suspicious. In many cases, it was reported to HR.

The problem is not about a lack of awareness; rather, it’s about not knowing how to use the information after getting it.

That is the gap our training program addresses. This program is not about writing policies; nor is it about putting up awareness campaigns. It’s about practical skills to handle real threats.

What the Training Covers

Each program is customized to your organization’s industry, size, and risk level. Our modules cover the following topics:

Recognizing Behavioral Warning Signs

There are almost always red flags before a threat becomes a reality. This module will teach HR managers how to detect verbal, behavioral, and situational signs weeks before a threat becomes a real problem.

Threat Assessment and Escalation

Learn how to assess the type of threat – direct, conditional, or veiled. Learn about documentation, escalation, and how to create a Threat Assessment Team that will work during times of threat.

HR De-Escalation Skills

Termination interviews, discipline interviews, and grievances are all risky processes. This module will teach you verbal de-escalation skills that are proven to work in these uniquely high-pressure HR situations.

OSHA Compliance

The General Duty Clause of OSHA mandates that employers remedy hazards in the workplace, and workplace violence certainly is one such hazard. This section takes you through how a compliant program is supposed to be structured and what common shortcomings exist.

Response to an Active Threat

What should HR be doing if law enforcement has been called? When do you notify employees? This module covers the right actions to take before, during, and after an active threat.

Developing a Prevention Program

Policies, procedures for handling reports, post-incident actions — this module helps you and your team build a prevention plan that holds up when tested.

Why Organizations Choose JG Good Corp

Workplace violence training programs come in abundance. They are generic in nature, presentation-driven, and aimed at a broad audience.

The training program of JG Good Corp is conducted by an experienced security practitioner with a career spanning decades in corporate physical security and threat assessment, and not a facilitator reading from a pre-defined curriculum. Each program is designed specifically around your company and your HR challenges.

We have conducted training for HR teams at manufacturing plants, healthcare facilities, law firms, property management and professional service companies across Chicagoland. Every training is unique because every company is unique.

Certified. Experienced. Chicagoland-based.

Common Questions

Does OSHA require this training?

OSHA does not have a standalone workplace violence regulation but enforces prevention requirements under the General Duty Clause, which requires employers to address recognized serious hazards. Several states including Illinois have enacted additional requirements. We recommend consulting with legal counsel on your specific obligations, and we can help you understand what a compliant program looks like.

How long does training take?

It depends on your team’s needs. Executive briefings run 90 minutes to 2 hours. Half-day workshops run approximately 4 hours. Full-day programs cover the complete prevention framework including tabletop exercises. We recommend a consultation call first so we can recommend the right format for your organization.

Can you customize the training for our industry?

Yes — always. Manufacturing, healthcare, property management, and law firms all face different workplace violence dynamics. Your training reflects that.

How is this different from active shooter training?

Active shooter training covers individual response during an armed attack. Workplace violence prevention training for HR covers the full picture — recognition, assessment, intervention, de-escalation, OSHA compliance, and policy — with active threat response as one part of it. Most HR teams need both, and we can deliver them together or separately.

Do you serve areas outside Schaumburg and Glenview?

Yes. We serve organizations throughout Chicagoland and Northern Illinois. Contact us to confirm availability.
